How Should A Khussa Fit? Sizing, Stretching And Breaking In Explained

How Should A Khussa Fit? | Saheliyan Journal

A new khussa should feel snug across the top of the foot but should not pinch your toes or heel. Khussas are made from natural leather, which stretches by about half an inch and moulds to your foot after one to two weeks of wear. Saheliyan khussas are a slim fit, so if your feet are normal to wide, order one size up.

How To Measure Your Foot

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper in the evening, when feet are slightly larger.
  2. Trace around your foot with a pen held straight up.
  3. Measure from the tip of the big toe to the back of the heel in centimetres.
  4. Compare it with the foot length column in our size guide. Measure both feet and use the longer one.

When To Size Up

  • Normal to wide feet: go one size up, because our khussas are cut slim.
  • Between two sizes: choose the larger size.
  • Narrow feet: stay with your measured size; the leather will mould to you.
  • Heels and Kolhapuris: follow the size chart on each product page, as fit differs by style.

Do Khussas Stretch?

Yes. The leather upper and sole relax with wear, usually by about half an inch, and take the shape of your foot. That is why a khussa that feels tight on day one often becomes the most comfortable shoe you own by week two. A khussa that is loose on day one will only get looser, so choose snug over loose.

How To Break In A New Khussa

  • Wear them at home for an hour or two each evening for a week, with thin socks if they feel tight.
  • Gently flex the sole with your hands to soften it.
  • Do not soak khussas in water to stretch them. Embroidery, glue and velvet can be damaged.
  • If the heel rubs, a small gel heel pad helps while the leather softens.

Is A Khussa Different For The Left And Right Foot?

Traditional khussas are often made straight, with no strict left or right. After a few days of wear they shape themselves to each foot, so keep wearing each shoe on the same foot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should khussas be tight or loose?

Snug, not loose. Natural leather stretches about half an inch with wear, so a khussa that is snug at first will become comfortable, while a loose one will slip off.

Do Saheliyan khussas run small?

They are designed as a slim fit. If you have normal to wide feet, order one size up.

How long does it take to break in a khussa?

Usually one to two weeks of regular wear. Wearing them at home for an hour or two each evening speeds this up.

Can I stretch a tight khussa?

Wear it with thin socks at home and flex the sole by hand. Do not soak it in water, which can damage embroidery and velvet.
